Anyone get married in Hawaii or anywhere like that? OR just thoughts on it? Good or bad?

Leslie B asked:

I cant decide whether its a good or bad idea? Too much drama if its in the states with picking who is in the wedding and all. If we have it in hawaii (or any other ideas of a place??) then we would bring a few people. like the parents..brothers and sisters and maybe a best friend or two..anybody got married like this or know anybody who has? Any regret?? Oh and we were going to have a big reception when we got back for the people who werent at the wedding.. much thanks!! Im stressing out!! haha
We would be paying for the friends and family so that wouldnt be a problem for them money wise
The money is really not the issue. Im thinking of if I would regret not having a wedding with every single person im halfway close to there.

Hawaii is beautiful, but kind of common. People go there all the time for romantic stuff. Try a island more unknown, yet exotic. It catches people’s attentions and there’s less a chance to deal wit tourists and such crowding the hotels.

I live in VA and I keep seeing in the local paper people going to the beaches of North Carolina to get married. I have never liked the exotic away from home weddings.

Reasons: I think it is rude to ask people to travel so far for an event; the economy is bad and people may not have the money for the trip; a wedding is supposed to be a good beginning to a new life, why would you want to start it bankrupt?

I have never been in favor of going into debt for a wedding and having it abroad or far away from home is bound to pull at the purse strings. The number one reason for divorce is fighting over money. It is sure to happen if you go into debt having a wedding.

I got married close to home, and my husband and I had a beautiful wedding for only $2500.00 which we payed for ourselves instead of asking our parents who had money problems of thier own.

hawaii is beautiful but expensive! depending where you live flights range. so if ur thinking of a destination tropical wedding. try to plan within a reasonable distance. miami is cheap to fly to and a great place! destination weddings are hard to coordinate from far away unless u can get an all inclusive package or a planner to help u that lives where ur planning it. i used both and it was still super stressful planning peoples trips, securing cheap rates for people and the details!

it’s so common..i think you should go somewhere different so it’ll be memorable, like Fiji, Cancun, etc.
&&if you still prefer Hawaii, maybe you should do it as a Honeymoon.

    Your plan sounds nice.

I’ve not gotten married in Hawaii or any place for that matter.

I do know that I wouldn’t do a Hawaiian wedding. I have a lot of people that I want and that want to attend my wedding (if/whenever that happens, lol..gotta find the guy first) and it would be very hard to get them all to hawaii. I sure can’t afford it and I know the majority of people who would be invited wouldn’t be able to.

My ideal wedding locale is in northwest Connecticut. On a beautiful lake that we visited so many times as kids. My mom absolutely LOVED it there so it just feels right that when I get married, I do it there.

It’s going to be hard enough to get the people I want to come to travel that far. And they all live on the east coast :) Hawaii would be nearly impossible..for ME!

If you can do it, and it sounds like you’ve got a nice plan, go for it!

My boss at work married his wife in Hawaii. He said it was absolutely wonderful. They were the only two that went. It saved them tons of money since it was cheaper to go to Hawaii than to have a big wedding and a reception and all that goes along with a traditional wedding. Asking friends and family to attend in Hawaii would be kind of out of place. What if they cant afford the trip? bringing people along would add a major expense. My boss got married and they video taped the wedding for him. the people that did the wedding were also their witnesses in getting married. Go by yourself, have a wonderful time, when you get back you could always have a little get together for all your close friends and family. doesnt have to be anything extravagant. Keep in mind that it is YOU that is getting married. do what you and the groom to be want to do, dont worry about what everyone else wants.

you should contact Sandals resort for the allinclusive price..There were so many people getting married, In the Bahamas it is beautiful, you’ll remember everything…We went there for our honeymonn,10/11/08.. I didn’t want to come back, it would be far less cheaper, and plus so many things are included, we didn’t spend one dime…and no tipping…..I got marrried here, but if I could do it again, I would have flew a few people to attend, and forget all the drama, because there was plenty…god luck on what ever you choose, if you choose destination wedding, you could tell others, you wanted just close family, and a few close friends…
