Best Restaurant in Maui-Wedding dinner?

lalala asked:

We are planning on having a small wedding in Hawaii and thinking of just having a dinner at a nice restaurant as the reception. I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on which restaurants to look.

I want a private room for our guests and preferably ocean view.

Thanks!

I’m not familiar with the nicest or best restaurant(s) on the island of Maui in the State of Hawaii, but I will give you a suggestion about what to avoid… be very careful about what any local thinks/suggests to be good eating or a native delicacy, bc what Hawaiians like more than anything else is…. SPAM!

SPAM! That canned pork shoulder stuff made by Hormel.

It’s weird, but they love it, they eat over 6 million cans of it each year.

They eat it on white bread with mayonnaise, they eat it as a filling in Sushi, they have cookbooks devoted exclusively to the preparation of gourmet SPAM. Spam, pineapple and rice - yummy ;)
Your local travel agent, or a good travel book will help you chose wisely

Do you have to have a private dining area? If so, check with the hotels such as the Hyatt, Marriott, etc Catering Departments. If you just want a great restaurant with award winning food, and great oceanfront view, and would settle for a private dining “area”, try Merrimans, Pacifico, or I’O.
