How do you plan a destination wedding?

bunny718 asked:

I want to do this because I can’t afford a huge party in a hall. I want to have it in Hawaii. Do I go to a travel agent for help or is there some online site? Do I send out formal invitations to everyone or just spread the word and assume whoever wants to come will come? Will people get pissed at me for not having it someplace convienient for them? Is it truly cheaper than throwing a big party?

Thanks in advance for advice.

well i would ask who would be prepared to go. Please take into account the travel costs, hotel costs plus the hall costs there.
    hope i have helped

Narrow it down to a few resorts that you would consider having the wedding at. Almost all resorts have an on site wedding coordinator who will take care of the details from that end. You should send out invites (beach theme would be cool) but expect many not to come. Will people get pissed off? WHO CARES! This is your special day and you can spend it however you want! You’re paying for it so don’t worry. Yes destination weddings are generally cheaper too as you will have fewer guests.

    It is cheaper!
I got married in Negril, Jamaica at Sandal’s.
    They did everything!
We spent around 6000 dollars because we went to something called an all inclusive resort for 7 days. This is insanely cheap because it includes the honeymoon!!
It included food, drinks, room, and TONS of activities. (Scuba sailing, snorkelying, 6 different restaurants that you can eat at whenever you want! It is Fantastic!)
We spent very little money once we were there, just when we went on off resort trips like dolphin riding, white water rafting, etc.
If people want to go they can book their own suite on a different sandals that is on the island, but not necessarily on the same resort.
People at sandals can hop around to other sandals for free, as long as they provide their transportation.
That way you guys can have alone time AND hang out with family/friends whenever.
    I loved it!!!

    1. Yes, see a travel agent. They can help you out tremendously and point you in the direction of places that will actually fit in your budget. Plus they are a great person to have on your side in case something goes wrong with the trip.

    2. formal invites 4-6 weeks before the wedding but save the date cards should go out 6-12 months before the wedding so people have time to save and get the time off work.

    3. yes, people will get angry that they have to travel if they want to go. if this is a big deal, plan a small simple wedding at home. Receptions at home after the destination wedding are also common.

    4. Is CAN be cheaper but it can also be more expensive. Hawaii will DEFINITELY be more expensive than say mexico, jamaica, or the dominican republic.
