Where can I find “locals only” places to eat in Waikiki - or surrounding ares?
theresa in oc asked:
My family and I are going to Hawaii in the end of July for a family wedding. We’re on a budget so I am looking for places that we can eat/hang out/play at that won’t cost us “tourist money”. Anyone know of any places?

Depending on what your budget is and what you like, there is plenty to choice from while you will be here. In general stay away from Waikiki if you are looking for locals only. Waikiki is the place where they charge the most for every thing because it is the epic center for the tourist trade. Now with that said, every thing else costs a little bit more because it is just the way it is over here with the additional cost of shipping everything over here from the mainland.
So what should you look for? Stay away from the known brand names and look for the Zippy’s, Teddy’s Bigger Buggers, Ra Ra Ramen and some mom and pop stores that still offer a lot of great food at a reasonable price. Especially the Blazing Steaks, Ono Steak Plates, Steak Out for a good steak plate and the roadside offerings offer the best bargains. You will find them everywhere. Don’t worry, they are regulated by the state and we haven’t gotten sick, they can do it because they don’t have the expensive overhead like the rest of them.
Just another local…

def stay away from waikiki, total rip off. And you do have to try teddys bigger burgers. I live in Aiea, and I like Bostons pizza, bravos and moes (moes is located inside pearlridge) All are pretty cheap eats
